We had a great experience with Icon Solar. We’ve had the system for over a year. Owning a solar energy system requires zero effort (the only blip so far has been with the *software* that monitors the system, so I lost a day’s worth of data, while still receiving power from the system). It is such a satisfying experience to get low double-digit electricity bills while running my AC through the summer. If I had a larger roof I would add more panels and pay nothing for electricity. But why Icon? Excellent and honest people! A year into ownership, Marc still responds to my text or email immediately. Before my purchase, Marc pointed out that I was overpaying for electricity with my provider, a fact another solar company I considered didn’t bother to tell me. Icon folks are honest straight shooters who know what they are talking about. I strongly recommend this company.

We had the solar panel installed a week ago, so we cannot say how they are working just yet. But, with dealing with Icon Solar it has been a pleasing experience. The salesman explained everything very well and answered all of our questions. If he didn’t know the answer he checked into it and got back with us. I found the online solar panel research to be daunting. Too many fake rankings that were really just advertisements. I narrowed my search down to two. One nationwide–Blue Raven, and one local– Icon Solar. It’s like buying a new car. I determine exactly what I want, and then contact several dealers. The product will be the same, but the price will vary. I wanted 22 405W panels, each with an individual inverter, and 10kWh of battery storage. Both companies had excellent, informed sales guys. Both came up with identical total cost. Both would help recoup the 30% federal tax credit. But Icon offered a whopping discount for cash, plus allowed me to use a cash-back credit card. This made their bid over $9000 LESS than the big national competitor. And sealed the deal for me. Plus, ICON is local, has been around for over 15 years, and has maintained excellent communication throughout the process. Everyone I dealt with was professional, committed to Icon and to doing a good job for us. Andy, Jake, Tyler, Matt, Neil, and the whole installation crew– all are good guys who provided the warm, local, customized result we were looking for. Two-day install, up and running almost immediately. You don’t just get the hardware, but an entire system to support it. A sophisticated app tells you in real time how much electricity you have produced. How much you consumed. How much you imported from the grid. How each individual panel is performing. How much you EXPORTED to the grid for future use. Here in mild, sunny May, we have been exporting energy back to Duke every single day. This will be subtracted from our Duke bill in high use months, like August and September. As a Duke Ohio customer, I can go to their website to see that exported energy value subtracted frm my bill. Each state differs, but in Ohio, our “net metering” permits a dollar for dollar bill reduction for energy we send INTO the grid. I am thrilled with our new Solar Panel system, and with everything about Icon. The ENPHASE Panels and batteries are working great and are very well supported by that company. I can heartily endorse these companies and products. You do need good support, though, so going local with Icon is the way to go!

I can’t speak highly enough of Icon Solar. From the start, Matt walked me through the entire process. He listened to my goals and concerns. I am a hands-on person and had tons of questions. Matt was honest through it all. If he knew the answer, he would provide it. If he was unsure, he would say so and would then reach out for the answer. At no time did I feel any pressure. We went back and forth on what panels, what batteries, etc., Matt was very patient. Once the project was designed, Icon took care of all the coordination with the county, inspectors and Duke. Icon kept me updated every step of the way. Never did I have to remind them, they were on top of everything. I volunteered to dig a required trench to run power from my shop to my house. I found myself in a bind trying to get under the driveway. One phone call to Icon, that same day, provided two young men, a 3″ diameter, 10-foot-long conduit pipe and a sledgehammer. Within 2 hours, those young men saved the day. Who takes care of their customers like that these days? Icon does! I can’t say enough positive about the crew. The master electrician Andy took the time to listen to all of my concerns and questions. I have a SPAN panel that needed to be integrated into the mix and Andy made sure that went without a hitch. The installation crew and other electricians were fantastic. The installation crew are direct employees of Icon, they are not subcontracted and it shows. They treated the job and my property as their own. Every step of the way was quality. Watching Ivan locate the rafters on my roof spoke volumes. He made sure that each anchor for the solar panel rails were dead center in each rafter. If you have any interest in solar, do yourself a favor and give Icon Solar a call!

5 month review – I was referred to Icon Solar through the Solar Over Louisville initiative. They installed 14 panels on my roof and from beginning to end Rachel and the team were great. They did everything they said they were going to do. All permits were pulled and inspections were no problem. I am saving money and I am happy. I am already thinking about expansion. If that happens, I will be calling Icon Solar.
